The EU Nature Restoration Law is adopted! This law is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to bring nature back to Europe and will set legally-binding targets to restore degraded ecosystems. It is our best chance at curbing the biodiversity and climate crises and securing a safer and healthier future for European citizens. 

It was five years ago that we started advocating for an EU-wide Nature Restoration Law. Despite an unprecedented attack and disinformation campaign led by conservtive and ring-wing politicians against the legislation, both the European Parliament and the Council backed it in June and July 2023. 

But our fight was still not over! The law to restore nature has survived but it was seriously weakened in the process. The opposition proved that they would go to great lengths to deny European citizens a first law to tackle the climate and biodiversity crises simultaneously. Only a year later, in June 2024, Member States have finally endorsed the long-awaited law and we could officially celebrate its adoption.

Europe is the fastest-warming continent and we desperately need to protect our citizens, nature, and the economy. The #RestoreNature coalition is now gearing up for the implementation of the Nature Restoration Law to ensure our nature can bounce back to the benefit of everyone.
